Well everybody, we're now half way through the rule-of-thumb ninety days
typically taken by OMB for regulatory reviews. As of today, 7/02/2008,
there's no change in status from the posting relayed below. Enjoy the
long Independence Day weekend ... transactions NPRM-comment-free.
Meanwhile, since I'm writing, there's an interesting Drug Enforcement
Administration NPRM dated 6/27/2008 on e-prescribing of controlled
substances. This NPRM is at
http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2008/pdf/E8-14405.pdf .

Subject: X12 Version 005010 NPRM at OMB
The following entry was posted to the Office of Management and Budget
(OMB) Regulatory Review web site today, 5/19/2008.
AGENCY: HHS-CMS RIN: 0938-AM50
TITLE: Updates to Electronic Transactions (Version 5010) (CMS-0009-P)
STAGE: Proposed Rule ECONOMICALLY SIGNIFICANT: No
RECEIVED DATE: 05/16/2008 LEGAL DEADLINE: None
ABSTRACT: This proposed rule would adopt new versions of the X12 suite
of HIPAA Transactions and allow the industry to use the most up-to-date
versions of the HIPAA transactions for claims and remittance advice. The
proposed rule will also adopt an updated pharmacy transactions
standards, NCPDP D.Q, for retail pharmacy claims.
The significance of this posting is that, if OMB approves the materials
under review without any need for significant modifications, a Notice of
Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) would be published in the Federal Register
in approximately three months.
