HIPAA requires covered entities to use standard codes on claim transactions. The American Managed Behavioral Healthcare Association (AMBHA) announced that On Wednesday, May 7th, the National Uniform Billing Committee (NUBC) approved eight new behavioral health revenue codes. These new codes will take effect October 16, 2003. NUBC combined code sections 090X and 091X and renamed them “behavioral health treatments/services.” Furthermore, NUBC established a new code section “100X” entitled “behavioral health accommodations.”
The attachment provides additional information about these new standard codes.
