HSAs – an opportunity to increase consumer choice and responsibility, or the road to bad debt?**Business processes for HSAs and HDHPs, a forum to promote business processes and information flow models for health plan benefits, tax-advantaged, and consumer health plan accounts.** This forum discusses the multiple business process and information flow models associated with HSA and other tax-advantaged accounts among consumers, providers, health plans, and financial institutions. Through an understanding of the WEDI consensus developed business models and approaches utilized by the various participants, appropriate tools and workflow strategies can be adopted to maximize timely information access for consumer payment responsibility and amount, both before and at the time of service. Tax-advantaged programs include Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs), and Medical Savings Accounts (MSAs). The need for new tools, standard transactions, transaction content, and real-time processing will be identified and determined based on the requirements of each of the business process models. The role of a multi-use ID cards and other payment mechanisms will be discussed. The HSA Forum will be preceded by the WEDI Health ID Card Forum to be held on August 22nd which will address issues and industry progress concerning the implementation of the Healthcare ID Card.
