NUCC Adding a Vendor Member to the Committee

Chicago, IL – The National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC) announces the
addition of a vendor member seat to the committee. The new vendor seat
is open and the NUCC is now accepting applications, in the form of a
letter, from vendor organizations interested in serving as a member of
the committee. The deadline for submitting applications is November 30,
2006.
The following criteria for membership should be considered when applying
for membership:
. The organization has a national scope and representation of a
unique constituency affected by health care EDI.
. The organization is affected by the administrative transactions
pertaining to the professional billing requirements.
. The organization provides a perspective not currently provided by
another organization serving on the committee.
. Committee members are intended to represent the perspective of the
sponsoring organization and the applicable constituency.
. Committee members will be required to attend meetings on a regular
basis and shall possess a willingness to serve on at least one
subcommittee.
. Committee members are expected to have the ability to obtain
quickly needed approvals from and communicate information to
his/her company and constituency, so the committee can achieve an
expedited process that meets the needs of the health care
industry.
The NUCC is a voluntary committee whose members include providers,
payers, public health representatives, standards development
organizations, a vendor and other organizations representing billing
professionals. The NUCC works to promote the development of national
standards for the professional claims process. It also maintains the
paper 1500 Claim Form and the uniform data set known as the National
Uniform Claim Committee Data Set.
The NUCC is one of four national organizations named in the 1996 HIPAA
Administrative Simplification legislation for a consultative role in
establishing administrative standards for health care. In addition, the
NUCC is a signatory to a Memorandum of Understanding with five other
organizations designated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services to collectively serve as the Designated Standard Maintenance
Organizations (DSMO) to the HIPAA Transaction Standard Implementation
Guides.
Applications submitted by November 30, 2006 will be reviewed the
Administration Subcommittee of the NUCC. Organizations may be asked to
attend an in-person committee meeting to learn more about the work of
the committee and present their request for membership.
