We are sending you this invitation to participate in an important healthcare industry forum. The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) has long been recognized as a leading industry representative for healthcare. WEDI is once again taking that leadership position as preparations are being made for gathering information related to the National Provider Identifier (NPI) in compliance with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). On Tuesday, April 18, 2006, WEDI will hold a special public hearing at the RenaissanceChicago O'Hare Hotel in. The Hearing will be open to all organizations to present their concerns and recommendations regarding NPI implementation. Chicago ,IL WEDI is named in the HIPAA legislation as an organization that the Secretary of Health and Human Services must consult with. Healthcare organizations have raised concerns about the enumeration, dissemination and implementation of NPI. Therefore, WEDI has formed a Hearing Panel to collect and analyze input and prepare recommendations for the Secretary to represent the industry perspective. We are seeking your assistance in identifying the outstanding issues that are critical to your organization and must be resolved for a successful implementation of NPI. You are invited to testify at this hearing, either verbally or in writing to ensure your input is received and considered. Testimony guidelines are attached. Please note: To have your testimony considered for the hearing, your testimony must be received at WEDI by Friday, March 24, 2006. If you would like to testify in person, please contact Ann Marie Railing, Director of Regional Education & Operations, WEDI at amrailing@... or 703-391-2718 at your earliest convenience. Based on a one-day schedule, a limited number of time slots are available to provide verbal testimony. Please note: In the interest of time, your verbal comments should focus upon key points of the testimony submitted. Testifiers are asked not to read their full testimony. WEDI will review all requests and will make final selections based on a representative cross section of the industry. The Renaissance Chicago O'Hare will be the host site for this event. WEDI has secured a limited number of rooms at the special rate of $159/night. Please contact the hotel directly at (773) 329-2871 to make your reservations and be sure to mention the ‘WEDI’ event code. The cut off for this special rate is Monday, March 20, 2006. The hotel can not guarantee this rate after March 20, so please register early. We appreciate your input and look forward to your participation at this important hearing.Attachments: WEDI NPI Hearing Testimony Template, WEDI NPI Hearing GuidelinesAnn Marie Railing
