I have updated my HIPAA bookmarks.  I find it handy when I need to research a HIPAA related issue.  There are two important additions since I posted an update in November; the link to the NPI instruction viewlet and the link to the NPI information/resource site.  The only changes are the links to the draft NIST special publications that have been finalized.  For those of you who are wondering about safeguarding ePHI in transit, check out NIST SP 800-52 Guidelines on the Selection and Use of Transport Layer Security (finalized June 2005).  I am not very technical, but after reading this I have a better understanding of the technology that is available, where to apply it, and most important—can ask vendors questions and better understand their answers.  The HIPAA bookmarks have been uploaded to the files section of ShareHIPAA group.  To access the files section, go to the ShareHIPAA group’s homepage at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ShareHIPAA/ , sign in with your Yahoo! ID and password and then click “Files” (located on the left of the homepage).  Files are listed in alphabetical order.  The HIPAA bookmarks appears like this in the Files listing:

I have also updated and attached NIST SP 800-66 in excel.  NIST SP 800-66 is the NIST Resource Guide for Implementing HIPAA.  The excel spreadsheet provides NIST guidance for the Security Rule’s Safeguards standards.  I have added NIST guidance for the General Security Rules, but as NIST SP 800-66 addressed only the Administrative, Physical, and Technical Safeguards standards the associated NIST guidance for the General Security Rules is my opinion only and its associated NIST guidance is indicated with an asterisk (*).  I have also provided NIST guidance links for the safeguards standards that are not included in NIST SP 800-66.  Most of the publications that I have added were published after NIST SP 800-66 was finalized. NIST guidance not included in NIST SP 800-66 is marked with an asterisk (*) so you will know that it is my opinion and not an official opinion. The attachment also includes a link to the Ohio Hospital Association’s HIPAA by Topic on-line resource.  These links allow you to click and go to the actual verbiage of the Security Rule and preamble comments.  The NIST SP 800-66 in excel document appears like this in the ShareHIPAA group’s Files listing:
