A number of folks have written to me over the past several days noting
that there seem to be two versions of X12N's 835 Claim Payment / Advice
Implementation Guide currently 'in play' for HIPAA: version 004050 and
version 005010. What, they ask, is going on?
As it turns out, there are indeed two very active 835 versions in
progress and both of them are intended for ultimate HIPAA adoption:
version 004050, published in 2003, as soon as its adoption process
currently underway can be concluded, and version 005010 once it is
published in about a year and its adoption process can be executed.
The present plan is for the version 005010 835 TR3 to be moved through
the HIPAA adoption process at the same time as other counterpart version
005010 TR3's that are being prepared on the same schedule [837p, 837i,
837d, and 834]. The version 004050 835 IG is moving through the HIPAA
adoption process all by itself.
I've been giving a seminar about the above, and the bigger picture
within which the 835 documents exist, around the country for the past
9-10 months now: "HIPAA TCS -- What's Next? Products, Processes, and
Prognostications". It's part of a package that can be tailored to your
organizations' learning needs. Feedback has been extremely positive --
from novices through experienced hands. Let me know if you'd like
further information and a quote to provide these materials to you.
