Announcing an Education Session covering the Joint ASC X12N and Health Level Seven (HL7) Claims
The co-chairs of ASC X12N Task Group 2 - Healthcare, Work Group 5 - Claim Status, and Work Group 9 - Patient Information, along with Health Level Seven (HL7) Attachments Special Interest Group (ASIG) are providing an educational Session on the joint ASC X12 and Health Level 7 (HL7) recommendation for proposed HIPAA Claims Attachments. ThisEducation al Session is scheduled onTuesday June 8th, 2004 from1:00 to4:00 at the June trimester meeting.
The purpose of the session is to provide historical background of the joint ASC X12 and Health Level 7 (HL7) recommendation proposed for the HIPAA Claims Attachment.
The material will cover:
· Background of the HIPAA Legislation for Claims Attachments.
· Efforts to date associated with the recommendation on Claims Attachments.
· Review of the technical components involved in the proposed solution, which include,
o Two X12N Implementation Guides,
o The HL7 Implementation Guide,
o HL7 AIS Attachment Booklets,
o Claims Attachment specific Logical Observation Identifier Names and Codes (LOINC codes)
o Clinical Document Architecture.
Intended audience: Payers, Providers, Vendors, Clearinghouses or anyone needing to understand the fundamentals of the Claims Attachment Recommendation.
This is the first in a series being offered to address the industry's information regarding the claims attachment standard expected to be proposed for HIPAA. Subsequent sessions will be planned to present Implementation Guide materials, address specific areas of concern, and offer a more in-depth discussion of the technical aspects of the proposed Claims Attachment standard.
The session will include presentation material from both X12 and HL7 as well as a question and answer session.
Presenters will include: Mary Lynn Bushman, Work Group 9, Maria Ward, HL7 ASIG,
Mike Cabral , Work Group 5, and Wes Rishel, HL7 ASIG.
