Nitrates should not to be given to patients who have taken a phosphodiesterase inhibitor for erectile dysfunction 24 hrs previously or within 48 hrs of taking a longer-acting phosphodiesterase inhibitor, such as sildenafil (Am J EM, 1/08, pg. 91).
