Subject: [Sackler911] ER shadowing

The doctor I have been working with to schedule ER times has returned to Israel and we are going to start allowing members of the group to shadow in the ER.  This will be a trial run as we have never done this before.  I expect a few hurdles along the way so be patient and certainly feel free to give me any feedback on how we can  make this better.  So, without any further delay, our first day at the Ichilov surgical ER will be this Tuesday followed by Friday.  Again, don’t miss class to do this or we can see this disappear very quickly. You’ll need white coats at the very least.  Again, stethoscopes will be useful as well as something to write on, such as a notepad.  I would strongly suggest reading up on whatever you see and some preemptive reading suggestions include appendicitis, cholecystitis, renal colic, and bowel obstruction.

The ER can only take 2 people at a time but we might be able to work out groups going at different times throughout the day.   During the day is more quiet, but you will have more 1 on 1 time with the doctors.  Remember that we are guests in the ER. We are there to observe and get an idea as to how different patients with different pathologies may present.  For instance, after you see your first case of renal colic, you won’t forget it.

I would suggest that each pair of 2 have at least 1 hebrew speaker to make the most out of your time there.  If you’re interested, email me back with the full names of the two people going and at what times you would like to go to the ER (ex 10 am – 2 pm).

Glenn
