To: STFM Listserv Group Moderators
I am excited to announce that we will be accepting applications to our
postgraduate fellowship program in primary care research at UCLA. An
accompanying flyer is enclosed for distribution and posting. I
encourage
and invite your group members or any interested physician to apply.
The
UCLA Primary Care Research Fellowship program is a dynamic curriculum
designed to prepare family physicians for productive careers in health
services research, academic medicine, and health policy.
I believe, that, as family physicians, we have a lot to say about how
quality of health care should be delivered and practiced. Our
expertise and
unique type of training is unprecedented among medical specialties.
We
bridge the gap between comprehensive health care for families and the
academic world of facts, research, and publications. We are uniquely
qualified to address many of the pressing health care challenges that
confront us today, including health care disparities, medical errors,
and
information technology. We should take the lead in solving many of
our
communities' most daunting health problems. But to do this, we need
to
train more of our own to become skilled practitioners of health care
policy
research and development, and to equip them with the
necessary "tools" or
knowledge to change and improve the current health care system. This
is
what the UCLA Primary Care Research Fellowship program desires to do
for our
profession.
Please distribute this information on your listserv to any interested
colleagues or group members. I would be delighted to speak with them.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Lillian Gelberg, MD, MSPH
