Hi, everyone. The new site looks great, so well done to the person who did the
redesign. Nice and clean, great palate, simple and appealing font, easy nav,
beautiful image. (If only the national site could get a face lift!)

I mentioned this in a meeting last night, but I'm not seeing any of the Thursday
Manhattan meetings on the calendar in the monthly or weekly view. I was told
that they're going on, but they don't show up. I've cleared cache, refreshed,
etc., but no Manhattan Thursday. Just Suffolk.

Thanks!

Hey there,

The Thursday night Manhattan meetings were apparently overlooked during the process of creating the calendar.  I’m emailing the person who can get them on there.  Thanks for catching that and bringing it to the attention of the group!

Before you laugh, keep in mind that a lot of people use this silly little
service as a search engine, so it's a good place to get SMART's name out there
and build awareness.

If you use Twitter and don't mind talking about SMART Recovery (or if you want
to set up an anonymous feed, like I did!), I created a list for SMART Recovery,
REBT, and CBT:

@sum_zero/smartrecovery-rebt-cbt

My feed is sum_zero. If you follow me, I'll follow you and add you to the list.
There are a bzillion AA feeds out there, but I could only find two or three
about SMART, and only a few more about REBT and CBT. I've seen a decent amount
of traffic from Twitter onto my SMART blog, which is massively linked back to
smartrecovery.org and smartrecoverynyc.org.

If you create a feed, consider using tags like #SMART, #addiction, #recovery,
#sobriety, #REBT, etc. It's free and easy digital marketing!

Welcome Kate!

I'm Michael, I facilitate in Queens and am the moderator for this list.

Things have been quiet here for a while. I hope someone will respond to you, in
the meanwhile I wanted to welcome you and offer any info you need. I know
Manhattan meetings are solid and well attended, I rarely venture in, but several
of my attendees here in Queens also attend in Manhattan.

Kate:

Yes, we meet every Sunday at 11:30 A.M. at The Long Island Consultation Center.
The only time we wouldn't meet is if the center is closed for a holiday such as
Easter Sunday, or if there was a bad snowstorm, which is rare.

Meetings usually average from 6 to 12 people. For example, we had 8 last
Sunday, 5 the week before, and 10 the week before that. We have a solid core of
regulars, although there have been several newcomers in the past few weeks, so
you won't be alone.

Just bring yourself! It's great you will be getting the Handbook, in addition,
we usually work on handouts at most meetings. I'm sure you will find the
support of others on the same journey.

I look forward to meeting you.

Michael.

Hi everyone,

Starting in March we will be down to two facilitators for the Tool Time
meetings.
Tool time runs Wednesday nights from 7:00 to 8:30 at The Addictions Institute in
Roosevelt Hospital, 10 Av at 59 St.
The meeting has a core group and the usual newcomers, many of whom are trying to
decide what will work for them.
After 4 months, we're just starting to gain momentum.

If you're an existing facilitator, that's great.
If you're thinking about becoming a facilitator, I'll be your mentor and we can
co-facilitate meetings to start.

Send me an email note if you're potentially interested.

Lee

Hi Lee:

I'm glad you posted here, it's good to see the Forum getting some life!

So, Wednesday night at AI is the Tool Time Group. I like it!

I agree with you that any group should have a minimum of 3 facilitators on the
team. You made a wise choice calling for assistance when it fell to 2.
Hopefully you will get more facilitators or trainees to join your team.

Is it harder to facilitate a Tool Time meeting than a standard or other type of
SMART meeting? Folks might be intimidated by the heavy emphasis on tools and
need reassurance we aren't doing rocket science.

I also looked at the meeting stats for Wednesday night. You can use some
outreach for Tool Time Group. There are a bunch of outpatient programs very
close to AI. Perhaps you might want to shoot an e-mail to Stan, he is head of
the Outreach Committee and discuss having the Outreach Committee do some
presentations in the upcoming months.

Michael.

Dear Scott,

I just found your email in my junk folder.
Don't take it personally.
My filters are set quite high.

I hope one of the facilitators was able to respond to you last night.
If you still need to talk, you can call me at 212.594.4563 or email iamleeinnyc@....
Also, there is a SMART meeting tonight at The Ellis Institute starting at 7:00.

Hang in there.

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the face-to-face SMART Meetings, though I've been checking out the
online stuff for quite a while. I went to the Saturday meeting at Hudson Guild
a little over a month ago, which I found really useful/supportive. I haven't
made it back yet (I've had a lot of weddings, weekend trips & other Saturday
commitments - plus Irene last weekend!) but I should be able to get back
tomorrow.

What I'm wondering about is the Wednesday 1 pm meeting in Brooklyn. I live in
Brooklyn and work in the Financial District, but if that's a strong meeting, I'd
love to make connections with people who live in my part of town. Anyone go to
that one? Should I have an "appointment" that requires me to miss work so I can
make it one week soon? Any info would be much appreciated!

Best,
Sam

Hey Sam:

From what I understand, the Wednesday Brooklyn meeting is very small. We have
been working on moving the day and location, we have potential meeting space on
Saturdays near Atlantic Terminal to use if we can get a team of facilitators to
commit to.

There's been fits and starts in getting a solid presence in Brooklyn over the
past ten years, hopefully we can pull this off once and for all.

Michael.
