LOCALS is a grassroots community group reaching out to parents, community members, and the San Lorenzo Valley School District to assist them in overcoming obstacles towards a fresher, stronger and healthier lunch program. Like all school programs and classrooms, the lunch program needs parent support, too. The lunch program operates at a significant deficit, which pulls from the general funds. It is in the entire school's interest that the lunch program operate more successfully. Greater participation in the lunch program means higher revenue for the program and and lowers the cost of running it. Beginning May 6th, 2009, by the efforts of this group, the school began serving made from scratch lunches with local, organic fruits and vegetables on Wednesday and, from gleaning at the local farmers market, often organic produce on Thursday, too. The work continues to encourage children towards healthy eating habits.

Those who wish to participate in the lunch program should open a pre-paid account. Simply issue a check made payable to SNS with the Student and Teacher's name at the bottom. The cost per meal is $3.00. If you have questions, contact the nutritional director at SLV, Kimberly Clark.
