Dear friends,

In talking about HIV/AIDS there seems to be a fine line between fact and fear.
It's a fact that new HIV infection rates are on the rise in Salt Lake City -
primarily among men who have sex with men. Unfortunately this fact can sometimes
fuel our fear of HIV/AIDS, our fear of those who are living with the virus, and
maybe even our fear of being intimate and close. A fact that is often overlooked
is
that we can change this trend. We can challenge stigma, volunteer, get
tested, and have the most amazing, satisfying, and safest sex we've
ever had - all the time. By this time next year new HIV infection rates could be
on the decline. If you're wondering what you can do to
help read on:

World AIDS Day 2009: Universal Access and Human Rights!

Join Mayor Ralph Becker, the Salt Lake City Council, the Utah AIDS Foundation and the People With AIDS Coalition of Utah for a special World AIDS Day proclamation and ceremony.  The event will involve speakers and entertainment, all leading up to a grand finale red lighting of the City & County Building, and a unified citywide bell-ringing tribute to those we have lost to HIV/AIDS, and those who continue to be affected by this disease.

This World AIDS Day, please take a moment to consider what you can do to make a difference and wear red to show your support!

Started on 1st December 1988, World AIDS Day is about raising money, increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education. The World AIDS Day theme for 2009 is 'Universal Access and Human Rights'. World AIDS Day is important in reminding people that HIV has not gone away, and that there are many things still to be done.

According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children. During 2007 some 2.5 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35.

A vast majority of people with HIV and AIDS live in lower and middle-income countries. But HIV today is a threat to men, women and children on all continents around the world.

We hope you will be able to join us on this evening of remembrance.

Happy Thanksgiving guys! You are all in my thoughts today--I'm thankful for the
strength that helps each of us face our burdens. I'm thankful for the support I
get through this group.

There is still plenty of time to RSVP for the party at Ron and Jose's this
Saturday. If you did not get an e-vite, please let me know. Both Richard and
Randy need a ride from the downtown area. They are just a couple of blocks
apart. If you can help out, please let me know.

Thanks guys! Hope you are all having a nice holiday!

URGENT:

Hey guys,

I'm helping a good friend of mine from Los Angeles locate dynamic speakers for an Alcoholics Anonymous conference there at the end of May.  Years sober are not as important as ability to share in front of over 1000 people in a calm, focused and engaging way.  Also, this potential speaker needs to have a recording of one of their shares on a CD copy to mail or MP3 to send via email.  The sooner the better.

So if you know anyone you think fits this bill, please have them contact me.  Because of the principal of anonymity in AA, I'd ask that you not publish their full name on any message boards.  It's totally appropriate to give them my contact info as I'll be sharing it directly with my friend in LA and all contact details will remain confidential.

The proposed SIN Cruise to Mexico that we had planned for May 2010 has been cancelled completely.  We have no plans to reschedule it.  If you wanted to go, I suggest you contact Paul Stalbaum who is organizing an HIV cruise on the same sailing in the 1st week of May 2010.  His website is:

www.hivcruise.com

Cruise participants from May 2009 cruise: If you were booked on the ill-fated SIN Cruise to Mexico this last May, first of all thank you for all your patience.  For information about transfering any remaining credits you have from Carnival, again contact Paul about having that apply to his May 2010 Mexico trip.  Sorry for any confusion or misunderstandings, particularly with those who were on the recent HIV cruise to the Caribbean.
Thank you,
Bryan
