This August we'll be heading up north to near Sacramento for white water
rafting on the American River with the non-profit group, Healing Waters. This will include guys from all over California, Arizona and beyond!
The cost is $50 (plus a $25 refundable deposit) for a day of rafting, a
night (or two) of camping out next to the river, all of your food (cooked gourmet style), and transportation from the Bay Area (SF/Oakland) during the weekend. There are 22 spots on the weekend of August 4 & 5 (Upper Fork) and 24 spots on the weekend of August 11 & 12 (Lower Fork).
Because the first weekend will be doing the Upper Fork, which is a real
treat and a first for us, you have to commit to be able to get up to the river by Friday evening before 6 PM. This will allow us to get an early start and raft through most of the morning and into the afternoon. (For this trip, you will get two nights for one price, but we may ask guys to pitch in some for the extra food on Friday night.) Both forks are Class 3-4 and excellent for beginners but still challenging enough to be fun for more experienced rafters like myself (such a stud I am, ha).
If you want to attend this rafting trip, we're asking guys to send their
applications to me before July 14th. DO NOT SEND YOUR APPLICATION TO THE HEALING WATERS OFFICE, SEND IT TO ME. I'll be collecting and organizing the applications for the small, but dedicated Healing Waters staff. We'll also try to help guys make arrangements for housing in SF or Sactown the night before the trip pickups.
These trips are first applied, first come, so send in your applications
today if possible. You can download the necessary application forms on the Healing Waters website (www.hwaters.org
), or email me and I'll forward them to you for completion. If you
have any questions at all, either contact me or the Healing Waters office. We are also looking at doing the Kern River again this year which is just east of Bakersfield (about 2.5 hours away from LA), and is by far the most amazing experience I've ever had in nature. And I'm pretty experienced in nature if you know what I mean...
See you on the rapids! I'm doing the first weekend by the way and
will be looking for a cute, sexy tent mate...any offers? Did I mention I'm training for the AIDS Marathon and have a ripped stomach now... LOL
