Wednesday, Oct 3: Planning Meeting

Meet at 7:00 PM at the Cocoa Caffe on the corner of 900 South and 300
East. We will be reviewing our proposed constitution and planning our
winter activities. Come if you have ideas for activities, or if you
just want to socialize with the club and enjoy the great desserts and
coffee available at the Caffe.


Saturday, Oct 6: Jupiter Bowl above Park City

Meet at 9:00 AM at the parking lot just south of the Chevron station
on the corner of 700 East and 200 South in Salt Lake City , or join us
at 10:00 AM at the parking lot at the intersection of Main Street and
Swede Alley in Park City . The plan is to hike to Shadow Lake in
Jupiter Bowl and return down Thaynes Canyon . The hike will ascend to
approximately 9500 feet with an overall elevation gain of 1500-2000
feet. At this time of the year, the weather is highly variable, and
Park City has already received snow. Be prepared for brilliant
sunshine or cold. The weather in SLC may not be a good indication of
the weather on the back of the mountain. Those planning on joining the
hike are encouraged to e-mail wjstroud@... so that you can be

Saturday, Oct 20: Black Mountain

This is the tallest peak in the northern hills just above Salt Lake
City . It offers spectacular views of the city and the valley. Most of
the trail is a fairly easy stroll along the ridge, but the last half
mile of the trail climbs steeply up to the top of the 8000 foot peak.
Total elevation gain is 3000 feet and round trip distance is about 8
miles. Meet at 10:00 AM at the parking lot just south of the Chevron
station on the corner of 700 East and 200 South in Salt Lake City .
