Alissa Hernandez, Assistant Executive Director of The Hailey
Foundation, writes: "I think people as farmers should treat farm
animals as they would a household pet....we should respect all
animals and shun the thought of animal abuse, and object to
artificial impregnations and growth hormones given to young
livestock. If an animal on a farm is treated that way everyone
suffers--the people doing it, the people that consume these chemicals
and the animal, most of all."

Please attend our World Farm Animals Day banquet and film at La Fonda
Oak Hills on Oct. 1 at 7:00 p.m. We will screen the non-violent, non-
graphic documentary The Emotional World of Farm Animals, by Jeffrey
Moussaleff Masson, author of When Elephants Weep. The film will
surprise many viewers by revealing the affectionate qualities of
livestock animals. Before the film, vegetarian cooking instructor
Gloria Weers will speak in observance of World Vegetarian Awareness
Day.

The $11.50 vegan dinner will include a vegetarian burrito, rice,
beans, chips, salsa, soda, tax and gratuity. Alcoholic drinks are
extra. La Fonda is located at Fredericksburg Rd. and Northaven Dr.,
1 block North (outside) of Loop 410 near Crossroads Mall on the

WILDLIFE-RESCUE SAVES FARM ANIMALS
Lynn Cuny (above with goat Baby Bill), Executive Director of Wildlife
Rescue & Rehabilitation, says: "Some years ago we decided that since
Wildlife Rescue (WRR) was fortunate enough to have 200 acres, it was
time to begin rescuing animals who are commonly found on farms. Since
some of the animals in our care came from a sanctuary that had to
close its doors, we decided to adopt the name of that sanctuary for
these animals at WRR: the Do No Harm Farm. Many of the animals here
came from abusive homes or were rescued off the auction block. No
matter their personal histories, these intelligent beings leave their
pasts behind and make new friends here at WRR. From a small, timid
donkey named Cletus who immediately adopted an elderly Mule called
Mulie, to a partially crippled pig who found an instant friend in
large white rabbit-like you and I, these animals reach beyond the
boundaries of self and species to the more intimate depth of
individual personalities in relationship and there they find peace
and companionship in a setting where once and for all they can live
in safety. "
