Ruta 6 : Examining the facts - both pro and con.
Founded for interested parties to examine the science surrounding Ruta 6 /CA3(PO4)2 for the treatment of brain tumors both as an alternative & as a complementary therapy.
Many brain tumor patients, when facing a poor prognosis, have searched for non-traditional options to reduce side effects of conventional treatments, improve quality of life and hopefully to find a cure. Ruta 6 is one of many herbal dietary options available.
Published research of Sen Pathak PhD, cancer cell biologist and Professor Emeritus at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas, having held joint appointments as Professor of Molecular Genetics and Professor of Laboratory Medicine, showed Ruta 6 in combination with Ca3(PO4)2 caused "induction of death-signaling pathways in brain cancer cells (cell type - human malignant glioma cell line MGR1). Cell death was initiated by telomere erosion and completed through mitotic catastrophe events."
The father & son team of Pratip and Prasnata Banerji, homeopathic practitioners from the PBH Reseach Foundation in Kolkata India, published their results of 15 patients with intracranial tumors who used Ruta 6 /Ca3(PO4)2 with gradual improvement in 2003 based upon 2001 research. We have not yet encountered published follow-up studies tracking these 15 patients between 2001 and 2006 and it is not clear how many of these patients had biopsys performed to confirm a brain tumor (type and histology).
The article - Ruta 6 selectively induces cancer death in brain cancer cells but proliferation in normal peripheral blood lymphocytes: A novel treatment for human brian cancer by Sen Pathak, Asha Multani, Pratip Banerji and Prasnata Banerji (International Journal of Oncology 23; 975-982, 2003)- is available to members in the files.
The authors' conclusion proposes that Ruta 6 in combination with Ca3(PO4)2 could be used as for effective treatment of brain cancer, particularly glioma.
