Dear
Joni,
My
name is Bart Colvin. I was referred to you from Rockford Park District.
(I believe it was Brenda Parish)
She
said you may be able to help me. I am enrolled in an art based therapy
cirriculum aimed at Alzheimers and Autism. Before getting certified, I
must complete some volunteer pracitcum hours.
Next
week my trainer/mentor Noell Hammer is flying into town to train me. I am
seeking autistic kids to train with. Noell and I sit down with a student
for a half an hour and engage the child in singing, movement, praise,
storytelling and by the end of the session, we guide the child in creating a
painting.
The
art work is really great and those who participate really enjoy
themselves. The program is called Art Without Boundaries and was
developed by Noell and caters to artist.
I
have dates booked at nursing homes but so far have not had any luck finding
kids to work with.
Noell
will only be in town next week and its the only opportunity I have to recieve
her training.
Would
you know of any parents who might be interested involving their autistic
children in a half hour painting session? I have two days next week
available. May 6th and 7th, which is Wed. and Thurs.
If
you could help me out it would mean a great deal to me. This time is
volunteer time. The paintings are for the kids and parents to keep and
I'm not trying to sell anything. I'm just trying to get my training in
and get certified and the kids have a good time. The parents get a
wonderful painting from their children.
I
have contacted many agencies and schools but none are interested in admitting
two strangers into their schools.
The
name of the organization is called Art Without Boundaries. It was
developed by Noell Hammer eight years ago.
