The Rochester Farm Connection is an online community of consumers and sustainable farmers within 100 miles of Rochester NY.
Farmer and member generated lists can be found in (or uploaded to) the files section here or at our Wiki
http://rochesterfarm.wikispaces.com/
Feel free to use this Yahoo group to share information related to sustainable food in the Rochester area. Suitable posts would include new farm information (from either farmers or consumers), existing farm updates, articles of interest, events, school lunch initiatives, and questions related to buying/preparing/growing/raising/eating healthy food.
Please do not submit posts that go outside the bounds of local food and farming. We do not accept posts regarding migrant worker or other social justice issues, or requests to place pets. If in doubt, post your message, and a moderator will evaluate.
Farmers: You are encouraged to share information about your operation provided you are either certified organic, or strive to produce in a manner which nears or exceeds organic standards (and provided you build healthy soil w/o fossil fuel based fertilizers). Further, farms producing products such as eggs, meat and dairy, must also raise their animals primarily outside, on green pasture (weather permitting). No grain-finished beef, caged hens, or indoor pigs please.
Local Organizations with a sustainable farm/food focus, such as: The Center for Sustainable Living, Seeking Common Ground, Rochester Roots, The South Wedge Farmers Market, The Brighton Farmers Market, NOFA-NY, Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4-H, SlowFood Rochester, Abundance, The Weston A Price Foundation, Rochester Area Vegetarian Society, GVOCSA, The Sierra Club, Restaurants that source locally, Cooking Schools, Raw Dairy buying groups, Edible Finger Lakes Magazine, Foodlink, The Rochester Seafood Buying Club, etc, are also encouraged to post.
