Ellis wrote: What we have to do is control blood glucose however
we can, "by hook or by crook"... It doesn't matter if you control
it by eating EXTREMELY LOW CARBS as Dr. Bernstein does, or if you
do it by injecting insulin, as Dr. Bernstein also does, or if you
do it by exercise, as Dr. Bernstein also does...

I ask Ellis -- What if any ONE of these would do it [as I expect
peak output exercise would]? Those of us active enough [who're
doing heavy exercise anyway] probably would prefer a slight
adjustment in the way we exercise.

Ellis: [Blood glucose varies too much, and for too many reasons,
to make just ONE of these (peak output exercise) a way to keep
your blood glucose between 70 and 90 (Dr. Bernstein likes: 83 mg/dl)
all day long.

For example... if you do one hour of heavy exercise at 10 o'clock
in the morning, but you have lunch at 1:00 P.M. or a snack at
4:00 P.M. or supper at 7:00 P.M.... and in that lunch or snack
or supper you eat some potatoes, or a piece of bread, or you have
a small fruit and a piece of bread, etc... and... IF your pancreas
is shot no more and no less than MINE, and assuming that you don't
take metformin or insulin... then your blood glucose would probably
rise to about 120 or 130 mg/dl or more (depending on HOW MUCH
potatoes or bread or fruit etc. you ate...) which IS NOT HEALTHY
for you in the long run.

So... If you DO have a reaction to carbohydrates as I do, that
is, your blood glucose goes UP after you ate 30 grams (or more)
of carbs, (which is REALLY EASY TO DO) and then it goes DOWN in
about one and a half or two hours... then it is TOO EASY for your
blood glucose to go to an unhealthy level...

Do you know what that heavy early morning exercise is going to
do for your late afternoon snack? It will do WHAT THE WIND DID
TO JUAREZ... You know what THE WIND DID TO JUAREZ???

NOTHING... Nada.

Fearless Ellis, who pricks himself dozens of times a day anyway
could, as our fearless, highly decorated leader, test this just
as another of his daily explorations.

I begged him several years ago to be this good Samaritan. He
demurred.

[I demurred? You want me to do heavy exercise in order to
control my blood glucose, instead of using insulin to control
my blood glucose? FIRST: SOME PEOPLE get an INCREASE blood
glucose if they do HEAVY EXERCISE, and SOME PEOPLE get a DROP
in blood glucose when they do HEAVY EXERCISE... So whatever
would happen to ME would not necessarily happen to YOU...

So there is no good substitute for taking your blood glucose
yourself, several times a day. You can learn from MY experience,
but it doesn't necessarily translate into YOUR experience
because MY PANCREAS is not YOUR PANCREAS... and I probably have
MORE or LESS insulin producing Beta Cells than you do, and I
am probably MORE or LESS insulin resistant than you are...

SECOND... I control my blood glucose very well USING INSULIN.
And I hardly ever do VERY HEAVY EXERCISE for more than 20
minutes or so... so it would probably not LOWER MY BLOOD GLUCOSE
to about 85 mg/dl, which is where I would want it to go down to.

My momma used to say if you want something done right, do it
yourself.

[That is good advice from your Momma. I think you should take
her advice. - Ellis]

I guess it has come to that, though I think Ellis is missing a
chance to provide more HGH.

[??? Thanks for writing... - Ellis]
