Re: * * * Lantus: A breakthrough insulin

Ellis,

You might want to tray Actos as well. I do not inject insulin, but
I take actos and metformin and in the mornings my blood glucose is
65 - 80!

Not only that... my LDL is 56, HDL is 63, my HDL/Chol ratio is 2.2.

My BP is 110/70 and I am 54 years old.

I am not taking any blood pressure meds. MY Hb-A1C is 4.

Before I started taking metformin and Actos my fasting blood sugar
had crept up to 101. I do not usually eat much high carb food and
do not eat late in the evening (usually), I do not eat much saturated
fat (I eat fish instead of beef) and rarely eat transfats, so I do
some dietary stuff and exercise. I am pretty sure the metformin
and actos made a big difference.

-Don

[Hello Don... Thanks for sending us this...

I don't know Actos, and I don't know if it is for sale in Mexico...
but I will look for it.

Many people use metformin and have reported good results with it.

But... I like to inject myself with insulin rather than take
metformin, because I THINK perhaps I am helping my pancreas NOT to
wear out as soon, because the insulin it would have to produce is
being produced for it, instead of: the insulin that is in the blood
is being utilized more efficiently (ie, metformin lowers insulin
resistance but it doesn't stop help .)

In any case... the proof is in the pudding... An HbA1c of
4.0 is PERFECT, it could hardly be better, so congratulations
to you. I am sure there is more than one way to skin a cat...

Keep your blood glucose controlled, no matter how you do it...
your way or my way, they are both good because they are both
working... So I know you are extending your healthspan.

Please keep us informed of how you come along. Thanks for
writing.

- Ellis]
