I was attuned as a Reiki Master in August of 2002. In 2003 I taught a
pair of Reiki I classes. In teaching, I followed the format as
delivered by those who taught me (my lineage). Since having taught -
and having had a chance to watch the progression of my students - I
have developed a quandry. I have put a lot of time and medative
thought into this matter and can not seem to arrive at an answer that
seems harmoneous on all the right levels.
The situation I'm talking about is that in our lineage the Cho Ku Rei
symbol has been taught as part of the Reiki I class. I have seen
various books where its in Reiki I and (many) others where its in
Reiki II.
Personally, I understand why it was put in Reiki I in our lineage, as
for many of us we find it to be a "physical" healing based sybol.
Within our lineage Reiki I is self and others, physical. Reiki II is
emotional, distance, etc. Very little, except the attunement process
itself is generally taught at the Reiki III level.
I am scheduled to be teaching Reiki I again in September, so this
issue has attained some urgency. While I would like to keep within the
structure of my lineage, I am seeing definete problems. (The problem
is, most of us were not sufficiently taught the methods of utilization
of Reiki that most R1's are. The hands we can do, but beaming etc is
beyond the scope.) Even when shown how to do beaming and direct
hands-on intent, my students, after recieving the symbol, immediately
gravitated to it for dear life. There was within some, the almost fear
of turning loose of it. Now, I know that as long as their intent is
right it really is "all good" but I also see some problems with this
approach.
Perhaps as an instructor I have done something in error to cause this.
I have not taught a Reiki II class yet but am currently structuring
one. I do not really know how to go about this - expecially if I move
Cho Ku Reik into the R2.
All of your thoughts, concerns, feedback and oppinions would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you for listening...
Blessings,
Kimberly
