This is the email address to RefluxParents on yahoogroups right ?

We are suppose to write to the list and not privately (unless there is something specific we would like to write about in private)

It just says "Stacy" in the subject line so she wonīt miss the e-mail, the same as it says Laurie now, so you wonīt miss it ;-)

Hope this clear out things for you

My son was refluxing so bad that he was passing out at 3 months old.
So I had to keep him inclined for 30 minutes until every feeding and
have been doing that until he was 13 months old.  So he hasn't had
much floor time.  Every time he eats or drinks he had to lay
inclined.  So early on they told me he was going to walk late due to
it.  He is turning 15 months this saturday and not walking.  He can't
even stand by himself yet.

My youngest son got GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) and today we went to have is stomach checked (Gastroskopi) and to put in a tube through his nose to check his acid level, which he will have for 24 h.
It all went well except they couldnīt get the tube in at the right position at the first try, so he had to do it again - and itīs very unpleasant.

Heīs doing fine now - sleeping on the sofa :-)

Sorry, both those are US designations. I do know for
certain that Canadian kids have many of the same right
to a free and effective public education. It should,
actually, be the administrator or principal who deals
with this, not the individual teachers.

Thinking good thoughts and hoping you have a good
holiday.

Hi and thanks. At this time the teachers are withdrawing all support
and extra curicular activities as a form of protest. They will not
meet with parents. That is part of the problem. No report cards no
tutors no support staff no supervising no sports no clubs...nothing.
I am in Canada so I don't know what a 405 is, sorry. Once the
teachers have they're contract, things may change.

You need to sit with the principal and possibly the
special ed folk *immediately* to set up accommodations
for your little guy. There is a process called a 504
where the staff and you and the docs come up with
appropriate accommodations.

Hi all,

I don't know about you but the season is a puke filled one here for
us. Too much excitement. Well, this year we haven't been so lucky.
My sons teacher is mortified by his GERD and is constantly telling
him he is sick (snotty nose and cough) and needs to see a Doctor. I
tried to get in before school started to talk to her and explain his
GERD but they were not interested and too busy. I got called every
day last week (by my son not the teacher) with requests to take him
home because he had vomitted.
I finally went and got him and headed directly to the Dr. Yup, not
sick. OK teach, proof, now move on..... I was called by her the 1st
week to inform me he was very behind and had some behavior "issues".
I tried to explain that he was suffering GERD related problems but
she didn't believe me. Two weeks and she was shown, by him, that it
was temporary. He is back up to grade 2 standards. They actually
asked if he could carry a bucket with him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What
next, a sign? Plastic splash bib? Tatoo on his forehead? No dignity.
His other
teacher always understood and cared, this one dislikes him intensly,
is disgusted by the GERD and doesn't want to deal with his medical
issues, at all. Not one phonecall, except from my son saying the
teacher sent him to call to go home. I told her if he WAS sick he
wouldn't stop vomitting. He is becoming slightly depressed. He KNOWS
his teacher doesn't like him and why. It is obvious by how short she
is with him and by her reaction to his vomitting. How am I supposed
to deal with this? Any of you know how to deal with this? I would
appreciate any advise....

Hi Julie. Welcome to the group. My name is Patti and my son,
Spencer, is 12 1/2. We live outside Philadelphia. Spencer has had
multiple fundoplications done (long long story) but the first was
done just before he turned 4. He didn't get a G-tube until later as
he wasn't FTT til later. Spencer was full term but also spent time
in the NICU - 3 weeks due to sepsis and pneumonia. Spencer was also
diagnosed by a pulmonologist.

I'm sorry to hear that Blake's fundo has come undone. Unfortunately
it isn't that uncommon. I hope he's doing OK right now. Repeating a
fundoplication is a scary prospect but is necessary for some kids as
it was for my son.

Hi. My name is Julie. I live in South Carolina. I have a 9 1/2
year old son with moderate to severe reflux.. Blake had the Nissen
Fundoplication when he was 3 1/2 yrs. old. He also has a g-button
placed due to Failure to thrive. Blake was born 15 weeks premature.
He weighed 1lb. 6oz. We have had different problems with him, but
the reflux has been an on going battle. We were never guarenteed
that the reflux would be the answer to Blakes feeding problems.
Before the surgery, Blake only weighed 20 lbs. at 31/2 yrs. It took
us taking him to a pulmonologist to get the answer. She took his
med. history , had x-rays done and in the same day told us exactly
what was wrong. This was after we went to another Dr. who said it
was his tonsils and adenoids that needed removal. We almost lost him
in that surgery. This Dr. was appauled at the fact that no one did a
study on him to rule out the reflux.
Well Blake's reflux came back full fledge about 2 years ago. This is
when his lungs collasped and had pneumonia. The Dr. ordered a ph
probe(what FUN) and it was mild. So Blake went on the zantac and
Propulcid. Since then he has been put on Reglan. I found that the
reglan doen't work as well as the propulcid. Is there any
alternative to this med. I have asked several Dr.s that tend to
Blake but they all say he needs both of these to keep his reflux at
bay.
Well this past summer we found out how bad the reflux had gotten.
This was when his lung collasped and he had pneumonia again. They
just increased the meds. I still don't ess a change in his reflux
behavior. We were told that he may have to have the Nissen redone.
Help Julie

Hi Robin

A couple months ago there seemed to be a virus going through the
list. Its been running fine now but no one has been posting here.
It takes up to 2 weeks to see the full effects of Prilosec so be
patient it will help. We haven't had any side effects from
Prilosec. However, I believe the most common side effects are
headache and abdominal pain.

Dear Robin,

The same thing happened to my son when he was about three he was fine for nine months and than we started having problems again. Even though it seemed as if he was fine they told me he was silently refluxing the whole time and because he had been sick since birth he showed it in other ways. Unfrotunately he has been sick since that small break. I hope you get some anserws and your son gets some help.

Hi Patti,

What problems occured a couple months ago? I have been away a long time!
We do know that Sayer is lactose intolerant, allergic to milk, eggs, wheat, peanuts... I am very fortunate that he doesn't like any of the things he is allergic to, so it is easy to avoid those foods.
This is his second day on the Prilosec, he seems to be doing okay, he has complained of a little bit of a tummy ache but not bad.  He had a school field trip today, he was kinda naughty, but a lot of times when I am with him he tends to act a little bit wilder, so maybe it wasn't the meds, maybe it was just him reacting to *Mom* being with him all day?

Do you know of any side affects that I might look for from the drug?  He is taking 20 mg daily.

Thanks,
Robin

Robin,

I'm glad you're back! This site has been quiet since the problems a
couple months ago. Have you been able to determine what foods your
son is allergic too? I know its hard. We tried to do a complete
elimination diet when my son was the same age. It was very hard but
not impossible. I hope you get some good insight from the GI and
that the month goes quickly!

Hi Rebecca,

I am glad you have gotten through the PH probe... I really didn't like seeing my son go through that either, but I know how important it was.   I do remember my sons reading going and staying below 4.0 for more that 30 minutes during his sleep..  I know this wasn't good and could be part of the reason he screams out at times during his sleep, it must be due to the pain.   I feel like a bad parent thinking that *by chance* he was outgrowing this disease, but it has come back with a vengeance....  I feel so bad...  I hope that you get good news and the answers you are looking for!

It has been so long since I have participated in the Reflux group...   My 7yr. old son was doing so much better, we stopped the Zantac and the Reglan.  Now, 15 months later, he is vomiting almost daily.  He is in pain.  We just started Prilosec this morning.  His next GI appointment is November 12th.  He was diagnosed with food allergies and GERD 2 years ago.  He has had the PH probe, upper GI, and breath test done.
Any thoughts or comments will be appreciated.

Rebecca,

I know that feeling of wanting to figure things out and get the
results sooner rather than later! Its frustrating to wait a week for
results. I'm glad you both got through the pH probe! When the pH
drops below 4.0, it means there is reflux occurring. The degree of
severity of reflux isn't dependent on the pH numbers. It is dependent
on the percentage of time spent below 4.0 as well as how long it
takes to clear when the pH drops. So, if it drops below 4 for a few
seconds, it isn't nearly as significant as if it drops below 4 for 30
minutes. I hope this information helps you correlate what you saw on
the monitor during the test.

Hi everyone, just got back from the ph probe ordeal my 3yo son  Richard has gone  through the past two days.  I have not got the results yet, but as always am super curious to nut things out a little before I see the specialist.
I  know very little about what ranges are  considered 'moderate' , 'severe' or 'normal'.  I'm hoping someone can enlighten me!
Richards ranges stayed mostly around 4-5, although there were times they hovered in the 6's.  They jumped around alot between times, going as far as 11 but mostly the other way around- the lowest being .04  Actually, the lowest was   -0.07, but with that minus being there I was thinking it might have been a computer re-adjusting thing.
I found it really interesting that after Richard had eaten a little toast at breakfast (normally the only time he will have a small amount of food in a day) the ranges went to  0.2 and up to 4.5 , which may well indicate the reason for the food aversion.
Anyway,  I am really hoping I can get some feedback here from the group.

Begun my Eagle Scout Project. Which is to design, order, and install playground
equipment at James B. Rolle School. In order to complete the project after
equipment arrives, various supplies will be needed. Would you please consider a

Hi. My name is Patti and my son Spencer is 12 1/2. He has also had
reflux since birth. I, too, hope that the problems with this site
are a thing of the past! Welcome to the group.
