Patti,
My son's name is Spencer also. So with your son, did they fix the reflux to prevent the oxygen drop or did they put him on seizure meds to prevent the staring episodes?? Did they label the staring as a seizure ??
I called the neuro doc and my son will be scheduled for a 24 hour EEG.
My son has very brief episodes of a blank look in his eyes. They are less than 5 seconds , so they are very difficult to assess. I just see something wrong.
He had these episodes 1 1/2 yrs ago, but they went away as mysteriously as they came and he wasn't treated.
3yrs ago he had 1 tonic-clonic seizure and that type never recurred. His follow-up EEG's were normal except for 1 isolated abnormal spike.
My son is 5yrs old . I'm not sure he'll leave the 24hr EEg on without messing it up.
Does anyone have any experience with a 24hr EEG or any Suggestions for keeping one on a 5yr old ??
thanks so much for your responses
I'm really very scared and worried. The possibility of epilepsy overwhelms me.
I appreciate hearing all your experiences. thank you

My son, Spencer, used to have episodes when he was younger that looked very much like seizures. He used to stare and would be unresponsive with dilated and non-reactive pupils. He had 2 EEGs that were both normal. It was determined that for him, although his reflux didn't cause seizures, it did cause low oxygen levels during sleep which they feel were the cause of the staring etc. Has your son had an EEG to check for a seizure disorder? If not, it may be a good place to start.
