Gabrielle,
I'm sorry to hear your daughter is struggling. Although I haven't dealt with a fundo recently, I did deal with a fundo in much the same situation with my son who was then 4. He's 13 now. His reflux was severe. He had Barretts esophagus, erosive esophagitis, asthma, obstructive apnea with oxygen desaturation and was generally miserable when we scheduled him for a fundo which was done about 3 weeks before his 4th birthday.
I hope your daughter's fundo goes well. Here are a couple of things I wish I knew before Spencer had his fundo:
1) The surgery isn't easy and true recovery can take a few months.
2) There is a lot of swelling post fundo which can make swallowing difficult.
3) Some kids need to remain on reflux meds after fundo surgery even successful fundo surgery.
My son's fundo had a lot of swelling and he wasn't able to swallow anything - even water post fundo. After 2 weeks of trying to get him to at least drink by holding IV fluids for a day at a time, the surgeon took him back to the OR to dilate the fundo which caused it to come undone. He has struggled for the past 9 years more than I thought possible but is a very strong determined kid.
I hope things go well with your daughter's fundo. By the way, there is a great fundo group called FundoFamilies here at Yahoogroups. You join the same way as you joined this group.
