Hi Donna,
My children don't have polyps, but my 2 most severe refluxers (and asthmatics) of the three I have, have hyperplasias in the duodenum. We get different theories too, but they seem to think it is related to the constantly changing levels of acid. I would never have considered the asthma meds to be responsible, though anything is possible, I suppose.

Wow...it is wonderful to hear from someone with a similar problem.
Kristopher's polyp was removed two weeks ago through endoscopy. I was nervous in that he has bronchial asthma and due to the location, in the GE junction surrounded by blood vessels, he had to undergo general anesthesia. As far as the cause of the polyp, his pediatric gastroenterologist says that he feels it is just hyperplasia from the constant reflux of acid. I work in Radiology at a local hospital and have taking a "poll" of several physicians as to the cause...all of whom have different opinions! go figure. I wonder if there is any correlation between asthma meds and hyperplasia? Thank you for corresponding. I appreciate any info you can give.
What is your feeling about having the polyp removed in your son's case?
