Shingles - What Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Patients Should Know About It
Did you have chicken pox as a child? If so - and especially if you're an FM or CFS patient with immune vulnerabilities - you're at risk for a debilitating shingles attack. FM/CFS specialist Richard Podell, MD, explains what to look for and why you'll need fast attention.

  WEEKLY INSPIRATION

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind." Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind."

What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind. - Jack Handey

When Listening Feels Good
"We live in what I call a dyadic monologue culture," says social researcher Carolyn Schwartz. "I tell you what's bugging me, and you say, 'Gee, that's too bad, let me talk about what's bugging me.' It becomes a ping-pong match. In empathic listening, you simply listen and encourage the other to talk. You'll know when it's working because the conversation will flow, become intimate, you'll feel close to the person, and as a listener you'll start to feel a kind of helper's high. It feels good when someone opens up and tells you what's important to them."

From Why Good Things Happen to Good People
by Steven Post, PhD, and Jill Neimark, Broadway Books, New York, 2007.
