Four main diagnostic features tell us about the Heart of an individual:
Pulse (branch), Eyes (shen), Complexion (flower), Tongue (sprout)
I'm interested in how a virtuous heart can generate the creativity
that kindles a fire beating the blood that courses through the body
and shining forth a flame that illuminates the darkness
through the yin and yang of the eyes..
From what I've seen, the Iris (corresponding to LV = Hun) holds the key.
The pupil is an aperture for the light, but the iris is like the fingerprint of the soul,
the rings of a tree, revealing genealogies and terrains traversed
through colors, lines and images of ancestral travels...
as the Hun comes and goes from one life to another.
Diagnostically, what does the left eye say vs right eye?

Hi Will,
Will you consider posting this with the formulas on my site? Great post! I just want to comment on the notion that "shen is the brightness in the eyes". Of course that is true but we will see that shen with our own eyes/shen. On a lower level it's easy to see light in another's eyes and notice that they are happy and creative. The real question is how much light is coming through when there internal experience is clouded and they are under pressure indicating that they are rooted in light? Beyond that the real light is one that consumes us. When mind is really out of the way the "light coming through the eyes" is of another order entirely. This is a light that "sees through us" and leads us to see through ourselves. This is a light not of "the moon, the stars, and the sun" but the unified source beyond those manifestations. It is the light of "the creative" itself.
