Re: Using the eyes to Cultivate Jing

Vision is a metaphor for paying attention to reality. The original name for Bl-1
is mingmen 命門, Gate of Destiny. Ming 命 "destiny", ming
明 "Enlightenment", ming 名 "name(ego)", and ming 冥
"meditation, obscure, sleep, hell" are all homophones and are functionally
related concepts. <br>

The perspective that shen is seeking for is the discovery of its self. The
illusion through the two eyes is of duality &#65288;&#19981;&#26126;, ignorant,
"unenlightened"&#65289;represented by the relative perspectives of the sun and
the moon (the name of GB-24). When ego &#65288;&#21517; the Dao de jing reminds
us that we should not "have name" &#26377;&#21517;) is out of the way then shen,
free of the conditioned mind, perceives only it's own nondual perspective. The
shock is that we awaken to find that the very impulse that has been seeking was
only ever seeking for itself. We had, in fact, never gone anywhere.

This is the basis of true and upright medicine
&#65288;&#30495;&#65292;&#27491;). The first character denotes the authentic
self rooted in and manifesting virtue &#24503;. The second character tells us
that the true self closes the gap between heaven and earth &#20108; and "goes
all the way" with no deviation.

Vision and listening &#32893; are closely related pointing to the great
importance of exit/entry combination of SI-19 & Bl-1. Listening &#32893; is the
foundation of cultivating virtue &#24503;.

Listening:"The ear of the disciple listens attentively to the words of the sage
so that the heart may be rectified and intuition restored."

Virtue: A man travels through the world &#22763; and though scrutinized &#30446;
from all directions &#21313; no deviation &#19968; can be found in his heart
&#24515;.

Please note that I have always written in a nongender specific way BUT I think
it's important to acknowledge that the Chinese meant Men and not women because
it helps us to not fantasize about how enlightened their culture was
historically.

Regards, Lonny S. Jarrett
