Key emergency points in acupuncture (AP) / acupressure are GV26, KI01, PC06, CV01 but many other points can help.
GV26 +/- KI01 are used mainly to reverse coma, apnoea, shock, hypotension, haemorrhagic shock. The needle is advanced towards the nasal septum until resistance is met. Needling time usually is 10-30 seconds in those conditions.
If there is concurrent cardiac arrest, it is important to add points for heart, of which PC06 is the best researched. In cardiac arrest, needling may need to continue for up to 30 minutes. That may not be practical on a busy trawler.
BTW, ANY point in highly sensitive areas can be used in an emergency; for example all Jing-Well Points (LU11, LI01, ST45, SP01, etc) can be used. These are "torture points" in comscious subjects, and they can reverse shock also.

AP is a powerful therapy for very many conditions but it is NOT a panacea. No system of medicine or magic can prevent eventual death; we all must die.
IMO, any physician who attempts to treat every condition that he/she might encounter with AP is doing a grave injustice to medicine, to his/her clients, and to society. I do not believe any professional who claims that one system is the only one necessary. NO one system of medicine / therapy can treat all disease effectively.
That is the fundamental reason who open-minded professionals embrace INTEGRATIVE medicine (a system that combines the best aspects of many different medical systems).
In Chinese populations that use traditional CM, herbal medicine is far more widely used (and important) than AP. I have heard that CHM : AP ratio is circa 80 : 20. Also, many Chinese look MAINLY if not SOLELY to Western medicine.

Though AP can help patients with cancer and diabetes, I am wary of anyone who makes claims that HE/SHE CURES anything. The old adage, "Doctor, cans't thou heal thyself?", comes to mind.
We (therapists, vets, physicians, etc) CURE NOTHING! The body cures ITSELF through the power of the Creator (G_d) and Nature. The best professionals merely ASSIST the natural process; the worst professionals impede it and the mediocre treat symptomatically to block the appearance of S&Ss, thereby driving frustrated processes to transform to other S&Ss.

IMO, there is no shortcut to skill / knowledge in general medicine. It needs the study of basic medicine as the foundation, on top of which one can add one or more of the complementary methods. Thereafter, one needs a lifetime of study to integrate & develop these methods.
