Question - Lax Ligaments   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #2670 of 4871 |
Hi-
My name is Adam Schreiber and this is my first post in this group. I
am a new practitioner (herbs and acu) setting up my practice in
Philadelphia. I have a question which is kind of directed at Will but
please chime in if you have thoughts.

Will, I met you a few weeks back at TAI Sophia when you came to do SHL
for Cara's class. One of the patients we saw was a slightly
overweight yoga teacher coming in for pain in her left hip and SI
joint. Don't know if you remember but it's not that important. One
of the things that you deduced about her pain (via ROM tests) was that
it was partly due to some laxity in her ligaments. You also mentioned
that this laxity can be due to excess amounts of adrenaline and
noradrenaline in the bloodstream (from trauma, chronic stress, etc).
At least this is how I wrote it down!

Anyway, I have a patient now that I think may have a similar issue
(lax tendons, ligaments) and I am curious to hear a little more on the
subject (pathomechanism, treatment, etc) - from both Biomedical and
Oriental medical perspectives. Without going into too many details,
my patient is a long-time dancer/dance teacher who primarily shows qi
xu and blood xu signs/symps. She has a history of frequent sprains
and strains (and not from dancing but from simple things like walking
and having her ankle turn over) and her legs are VERY loose and
flexible - almost floppy. I was testing her ROM the other day and in
prone position, flexing her knee caused her fibula to move/pop away
from her tibia - she says it happens all the time.

Thanks in advance,
Adam
