Heightened blood viscosity can cause the pulse to get wide and remain while using the lifting method. If it is merely elevated lipids, then the whole pulse tends to be slippery. That said, elevated lipids will give a widening sensation upon lifting, but not as much as a condition such as polycythemia.

Blood thick, is that an indication of possible high cholesterol levels or might it be someone whose blood is easily congealed or in polycythemia where there are too many red cells?
