I spent quite a while on the phone today calling around to the pharmacies
around here. My usual pharmacy absolutely can't get me the indictable MTX any
more. Three of the big pharmacies can get it, but all of it is the preservative
free, one time use version. Thing is, I've been using a vial of the
preservative free since January without ill effects. The problem with the
preservative
free stuff is that the preservative will kill bacteria if it would get
accidentally contaminated. The preservative free will harbor the bacteria.
Sort of in a rock and a hard place. Either I go back to the pills which make
me sick, stop taking it and go into a major flare, I get the preservative free
and use it once, or reuse the vial and risk infection.
I talked to my pharmacist today and we figured I've been using the
preservative free one since Jan and reusing the vial with no ill affects. I am
VERY
careful about swabbing the vial with alcohol before inserting the insulin
syringe
and only use a syringe once. So...*sigh*
Smile,
Becky
