Hi guys! My daughter is a nurse, so when I was put on Methotrexate she checked
it out for me (the doc had explained, but its hard to take it all in), and it
sounded terrifying. In the end though, I was on it for 6 years, the only side
efect being 24 hours of nausea each week - a small price to pay for a normal
life! Then last year, the doc said arthritic activity had been minimal for a
year, so we tapered it off & I've been med free for 5 months with only slight
twinges so far (touch wood!). The only problem is my psoriasis has flared up,
but I'm trying aromatherapy based treatments for that - they smell nice if
nothing else!
Don't be put off by "possible" side effects - everyone is different.
Janet - try not to be too worried about your soon to be deployed son - my
daughter has done a tour in Iraq, so I can understand your feelings.

>Hi Janet,
Both Embrel & Methotrexate (MTX) are standard drugs for fighting
Psoriatic Arthritis. As you probably know, each has it's share of
possible side effects. These are the drugs you want when you refer
to "drugs that fend off the pain" These drugs do not numb the pain,
the attack at the root cause, our overactive immune systems.
I don't know much about Embrel, but I know that many folks have had
success using it. I take MTX. I've taken it for 2 years. It took me
from barely walking to normal. I have had no side effects. I am no
expert, I just know what it meant to my life. I have heard of
others who have taken MTX for 20 years and more with good results.
So If embrel isn't helping you, try the MTX. Why did you "chicken
out"? If you simply were scared, DON'T BE. It is widely used and can
mean all the difference in the world to you. It can take 4-8 weeks
to have an effect. Some folks do have side effects, but until you
give it a shot, you won't know.
Stay Well,
David
