Have you ever been added to a group you have never applied to??? You usually realize this has happened to you when you log into your mail and see oodles of mail from a group you have never heard of.
Believe it or not - sometimes individuals will enter a group for the sole purpose of harvesting members for their own group. . . .
Sounds a little nutz, right!!! Sadly, this has been happening in Yahoo Groups lately.
There is a way to prevent this from happening. Click on this link to edit your Group Preferences and you'll see the picture below.
On the left hand side, all your e-mail addresses used in Yahoo Groups are listed and to the far right you'll see Options. Click on edit for each e-mail you have listed and edit it to "NO" for Direct Adds.
I personally don't mind allowing invites and there are a few groups that are by invite only. To receive invites "Allow Invitations" should be marked "YES". While you are there you can also check your Bounce History as well as add or remove e-mail addresses to be used in Yahoo Groups. I hope you have found this mini-tut helpful...
