Hi Tawny,
I've found this Group somewhat informative, but definitely not supportive. There is another Group just called Neuropathy, that is both quite informative, along with a number of very supportive members. This Group is qyuite slow, with few posts, and fewer answers.
I've had PN for several years, not associated with diabetis. If you have the typical burning, painful numb feet and up the legs and sometimes in the hands and arms, I think that would be described as typical PN. But the disease comes in all forms, and electrical like shocks are nor uncommon. Your symptoms and other problems may relate and interact.
That beginning dose of Neurontin sounds typical. There seems to be confliccting opinoin on the dose of Neurontin. Some Drs. keep a low dose, and others raise the dose gradually. I was up to 4800 mg/day of Neurontin, with no relief, before I weaned off it. I'm now on Lyrica, and it is the first drug I have found, from a long list, that actually has helped my particular symptoms.
Good luck,
IK

I am looking for a place for information and support. I have many
health issues, but one is peripheral Neruopathy, and it's so new to
me. I also have rhematoid arthritis, lupus, sjogren's,
neurofibromatosis(tumors on the nerves.) I have problems with my left
leg. I have been to so many doctor appointments and tests, I'm so
tired of it. I have had three MRI's, that recently showed 3 herniated
discs in my neck. I haven't got the results in my lower back yet. I
have also had the EMG test. My doctor just started me on Neurontin
300Mg, at 2X a day. I can tell it helps a little, but still having
problems with my leg. Thanks for listening, and I hope to get to know
you all, Tawny
