I had major back surgery in Feb. of '99 with lots of
fusion, plates and screws. After complaining to the
Dr. that I still had pain, it was a year of physical
therapy that did not do any good so was sent to a
neurologist. He did a thorough exam and sent me to a
pain clinic. He said that I had neuropathy although
at that time I had no symptoms. At the pain clinic
and for the next two years I had pulsed radio
frequency on my back which he did help me a lot but
because of the fusion he could not get to the nerves
to finish out for the pain in the dead center of my
lower back. During this time about a year and a half
ago, the neuropathy symptoms did appear. As they
worsened this Dr. tried various methods to help me but
could not and admitted that he couldn't. He tried
various methods. My family Dr. that I have been with
for sometime also tried the medicines and at this
time, I take neurontin 1800mg. a day, fiorinal with
codeine as needed, and now use duragesic patches.
They help the most but still must stay off the feet as
much as possible but so nice to have some relief when
sitting and sleeping. I cannot tolerate air to them so
must wear shoes all of the time and footies when I go
to bed. Water is unbearable so it is a hurry up thing
to get shoes back on. Two Drs. feel it is from failed
back surgery. I am on my third neurolgist now but he
mainly upped the dose of neurontin. It has started in
my right hand but not too bad yet. I hope others will
come forward and share and then we will go from there.
