Welcome, Julie.
I would suggest going to a good chiropractor to start with. Sometimes that helps. Next, I would see a good neurologist that specializes in neuropathy. If you go to
www.neuropathy.com it has a listing of neurologists in different areas. You can check that out.
As for immediate relief, have you tried any type of pain medication for this? I think most of us have tried nearly all the pain meds available. They don't work too well. A lot of us are taking Neurontin.
Neurontin is a seizure medication. It doesn't work so well for seizures, but to those of us in intense neuro type pain, it is a lifesaver. When my neuropathy hit, it became so bad that
I was in intense pain night and day and could not stand my feet touching the bed, nor the covers touching them. I slept in the recliner with extra pillows under my legs to elevate them and keep anything from touching my feet. I could not walk anywhere without extreme pain. My feet would swell.
None of my shoes fit. I have to wear shoes that I can adjust for swelling like sandals with velcro straps across the toes and foot or shoes with lots of room in the toe area.
I saw a neurologist that specializes in neuropathy. I even drove for 3 hrs to get here bypassing neuros in my own area. She gave me Neurontin. I started slowly and now am taking 1700 mg a day. Evening is my highest dosage in order to help me sleep.
Oh, I also see a good chiropractor when I need one. He has kept me going for the last 27 years.
I also bought some wonderful shoes which has helped tremendously. Now, I walk in the stores, can get up an do my housework and am hoping I can start exercising to help combat the weight gain that comes with the meds.
Hope this helps you,
Sunny

I have joined this group because I have no idea what else to do if that makes since. I am in so much pain. It started when I was out of town, I had a death in my family. Then I got home my daughter broke her tail bone and I was in the er all night long. Then I came home really tired and fell asleep in the recliner. Well when I woke up about 6 hours later my arm, finger, wrist was asleep and hurt bad. It felt as thought it was three times bigger. Since then it keeps getting worse. I have taken all the over the counter pain meds, nothing works. I finally went to the er and was told that I have peripheral neuropathy. Is there anything I can do to make it better or anything I can get to take .......even something natural........Please help..................Julie
