Re: [Peripheral_Neuropathy] New Member

Hi Shelly,
I have "balance Problems" with mine and PAIN :( The pain is HORRIBLE so your Dad is lucky not to have it.
But the balance issues are also AWFUL I fall about 10 to 12 times every week. I have hit my head, hurt my arms legs etc. I once fell in my town hall right in front of EVERYONE..I was never so embarrassed!!
I use to raise Sheep on my Farm but had to sell off everything cause I just can't do it! I have been waiting on Social Security Disability which of course is a JOKE! Our Government HATES you once you no longer can work and pay taxes.
Heck we just found out my partner can get paid for caring for me at home 40 hours a week which is the ONLY thing saving our necks at the moment. Its a SECRET Maine program that my partner ran across while speaking with a Disabled Vet Counselor as he is 30% disabled from the Army. The Vet guy told Miles about this homecare program Maine runs. I got evaluated last week and am now eligible for either Nursing Home placement (I am just going to be 52 in Feb) or in Maine I have an absolute RIGHT to stay in my home and have care provided for me either by a Loved One or I can hire someone who the state will pay. We of course are taking the paid Love One route as it brings another 40 plus hours a week pay into our lives while I WAIT for the US Government to do the right thing!  I have another 5 1/2 hours of care time but I a using that to hire a part time housekeeper to do the heavier cleaning once a week.
My Neuropathies are caused by Diabetes..they affect my hands wrists arms legs feet, right rump and thigh..my balance I sweat like a women in menopause..I once sweat for 12 straight hours. My vision goes CRAZY on me without warning.
I managed to get by taking care of myself and my farm as well as run a business until 3 years ago when I fractured my hand. Since then its has all gone crazy and I can't manage to take a shower now without help. As I said I have been approved for level 4 Nursing Home placement.
I was a Nurse by education..I had never heard of this stuff before having it albeit I worked Pediatrics all my life. There is nothing that can be done for the balance..the only meds offered me thus far have been to deal wit the pain..first things like Lyrica Tegretol and neurontin..when those did not work Narcotics which help the pain but little else. For the balance issues it care by others so I don't have to get up that much..I also walk with a cane but can only walk a few feet despite the cane.
Micheal
