I am a new
member of this group and do not have peripheral neuropathy but my father
(who is 87, lives alone on a 40 acre ranch in Iowa) does. He lives
in a small town and does not have a computer. He has had the
disease about five years. He does not have any pain (except for
very warm feet) but this past year the balance problems have really been
bothering him. He also
has problems lifting his feet up to step over things. Since he is
so active and has been so very active in the past, it has been hard for
him to accept his condition -- especially when he has so much to do every
day with taking care of the ranch. His doctor (from a Mayo Clinic
extension office in my dad's home town) doesn't seem to know very much
about the condition. My father
does not take any medication for the disease but he does take blood
pressure medications. My dad does not have diabetes nor a Vitamin B
deficiency -- so he has no idea why he has the condition. Do any of
you have any suggestions about what he can do to help his balance
problems and heavy leg syndrome. I live six hundred miles from my dad and
am an only child; so he is very dependent upon me helping him -- that is
why I have joined your list serve. Thanks for any help you can give
me. Shelley
