PennsylvaniaLyme is an on-line support group. It is a virtual meeting place and source for information and emotional support for residents of Pennsylvania with Lyme and other tick-borne diseases.

When you apply for membership, please state that you are a Pennsylvania resident. We cannot approve your membership without this information. (If you are in another state, there is probably a corresponding group for you.)

Pennsylvania has a very high incidence of Lyme disease - it is usually the state with the most new cases every year. Chester County has the highest rate, with over 200 reported cases per 100,000 people.

When Lyme disease is treated early, it may be easy to cure, but people who are not diagnosed and treated promptly may become chronically ill, lose their jobs, and become disabled.

The Pennsylvania General Assembly is considering legislation to protect Lyme-treating doctors from sanctions when they treat Lyme disease according to an accepted standard of care, and require insurance companies to cover prescribed treatment as long as certain conditions are met. Please ask your legislator to support this legislation.

Over 90 Lyme groups support federal companion bills HR 3427 and S 1479 to improve diagnostic tests; enhance the public health surveillance systems and improve public education to prevent new cases of Lyme disease; and create a federal task force. Please ask your US legislators to support these bills.
