month??? Theresa

I hesitated to do this because I was afraid people would think it was spam but I
want to let you know about it

For chaplains, parish nurses, clergy, congregants, cancer patients, caregivers,
all who are interested

Look around you. Do you know any family who hasn't been touched by cancer?

Today, almost everyone knows someone with cancer - a family member, friend,
coworker, neighbor . maybe even yourself.

Ministry to cancer patients and their families is critical to their health, well
being, support and recovery. We know this not only because Scripture makes it
clear, but also because hundreds of scientific studies have proven that
spirituality and faith play a major and crucial role in people's physical health
. faster recovery times from surgery, fewer hospital days, lower death rates,
unexplainable healings. These are but a few of the documented benefits.

Often, though, people don't know what to say to someone with cancer, what will
be helpful, what a person's really going through who's received that diagnosis.
They don't really understand what cancer is, the causes, the mental, emotional,
physical and spiritual battles a person is undergoing nor what is needed to
impart hope and encouragement at this time.

Training is available through the Pastoral Care department of Cancer Treatment
Centers of America (CTCA). In one eight-hour session to be held September 14,
2006 at First Presbyterian Church, 525 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS from 8:00 a.m.-
5:00 p.m. Continental breakfast and light lunch will be served. CEUs /
certificate of attendance will be available. Cost is $20.00 per person. You'll
learn all of the above plus:

· Why faith is so important to health; why it's important to reach out to cancer
patients and their families

· What cancer is and isn't

· Dos and don'ts of hospital visitation

· Prevention information

· Cancer-fighter recipes and more

Call 316-686-0111 today and register to attend. Your registration fee plus name,
address, city, zip, phone, and e-mail address can be mailed to 10913 Longlake,
Wichita, KS 67207 (payable in advance). Make checks payable to: Kansas Parish
Nurse Ministry (KPNM). You'll gain valuable preparation for ministry to others
or to someone in your own family. Registration deadline is August 28
(reservations must be turned in to CTCA).
