COMMISSIONING
HEALTH AND WELLNESS MINISTRY
OPENING PRAYER:
We ask you, O Lord, to be with us this day to honor the work of this
ministry to the body, mind and spirit of your people. So that when we go
from this place we may honor others, living in the hope that we share and
express our ministry through compassion. Help us each to minister with
kindness in this way sharing the grace that is at the root of our lives. Be
with us as we witness your love and live each day for your honor and glory.
Lord, we ask for your blessing upon this ministry.
RESPONSORIAL;
Priest: Health ministry is based on the belief that each person is unique
and valuable in an ever-dynamic relationship with the environment and other
persons.
All: We stand together to witness God's healing love available to all of
creation. Embracing our faith, we grow and uphold each other in our
ministry.
Priest: We believe each person is created in the likeness of God and given
the responsibility to care for all dimensions of self- body, mind and
spirit. This responsibility also includes caring for other persons and all
of creation.
All: In God's spirit of peace, justice and integrity for all creation, we
walk humbly together toward abundant living.
Priest: Health is dynamic life-long process: a continuing journey toward
wholeness. Wholeness exists when Gods inner peace is experienced in all of
life.
All: Let us listen longlinly for God-with-us. Let us join hands and spirits
on this journey.
Priest: In this health ministry, we work to integrate faith and health in
our congregation. We are knowledgeable in health and ministry and are
privileged to accompany individuals and families on a life long journey
toward healing and wellness of mind body and soul by using the resources of
the congregation and the community.
All: Let us work together to enhance the healing available in our
community. For when we help each other, we understand our journey of healing
more clearly and we increase a healthy outreach in God's name.
Priest: May this congregation, as a community of faith, become a place for
health and healing through the sacraments, worship, prayer, education,
fellowship and service.
All: Let us strive to create a congregation of healing. Let us bring our
wounds, our gifts, and our lives to this table as celebration of God working
in us.
Let us pray:
All: Lord, you have called your servants to ventures
of which we don't fully understand.
By paths as yet untrodden.
Give us faith to go out with good courage to obey your command to,
"Love one another as I have loved you."
Not knowing where you will lead,
let us trust your hand and your love to support us.
Amen.
THE ROOTS OF NURSING
Nursing is an art; and if it is to be made an art.
it requires as exclusive a Devotion, as hard
a preparation, as any painter's or sculptor's work;
for what is the having to do with dead canvas or cold
marble, compared with having to do with the living body
the Temple of God's spirit?
It is one of the Fine Arts;
I had almost said,
the finest of the Fine Arts.

Hi all,
The parish nursing text "The Essential Parish Nurse" by Deborah L.
Patterson, includes a "Sample Service of Installation for a Parish Nurse,"
in Appendix C. I have used this text, along with several others, as the
basis on which to build my ministry. It is an excellent resource.
Blessings,

I noticed the attached file didn't come through on the earlier email.
Does the list-server not allow for attachments?
Thanks!

Attached file is a copy of a service we use for our Parish Health
Partnership program. Our program provides a "parish nurse on-call" to
several area churches, we being a Lutheran ministry serving older
adults. I think the commissioning service still applies even though we
were commissioning lay volunteers who are the "health cabinets" in their
respective congregations along with the professional nurses on staff who
are the "on-call" Parish Nurses.
