Subject: [ParishNurse] The fine line between "spam" and "resources"
Friends and Colleagues,
I joined this list long ago - I've lost track of when. I am not an RN.
Personally, I am an ordained minister with a specific background in pastoral
care, counseling, and education. I have a passion for Health Ministries and
come from the perspective of wanting faith communities to embrace health
ministries. I am grateful for the leadership that Parish Nurses have provided
and continue to provide to carve out this new work. It is my strong belief that
we need more interdisciplinary education so that we can continue to learn from
each other and therefore give care for the whole person and their families. I
view our relationship (on this list) as colleagues.
I direct the Wayne E. Oates Institute and the Oates Institute provides
interdisciplinary online continuing education - most of which provides the
opportunity to participate in online seminars and earn CNEs. I have noticed
that there can be a fine line between what is labeled as "spam"
and what is considered a "resource." There probably are groups that try to
target list servs where there is a common interest. I became a member of a
number of list servs long ago so that I can stay aware of the needs of Parish
Nurses, for instance, or chaplains or clergy.
However, I do this to further a ministry that I believe is compatible with the
ministries of each group. I am passionate about what faith communities
can/could be if they would embrace a wholistic perspective of what it means to
live with faith. I also believe that congregations/temples/parishes/ etc. must
claim a role in helping those that fall between the cracks or are trying to
sustain themselves following a hospital visit.
My questions are:
* If I tell this group about the online Health Ministries
Certificate Program offered by the Wayne E. Oates Institute is it
spam?
* Does this group only want nurses, or RNs or those that have earned
a particular degree to be a part of this list?
I welcome your responses and send my best to each of you.
Vicki
