We had a gardening party last summer. It worked very well.
We decorated with our theme. Some of the nurses wore gardening outfits. We
decorated the table with plants. We had on display for the taking lots of
nutrition and gardening pamplets from the extension service. Our Health and
well ness board made lots of delicious nutritious snacks. Our emphasis was on
using herbs in cooking. We made such things as zuchini bread, herbed cheese
spread and crackers, v eggies and dip etc. We also gave door prizes such as
gardening tools, gardening gloves, A mini hot house for starting plants.
Everyone seemed to enjoy it. You could use this theme for any time of
the year. For instance, fall could include nutritious ways to use apples,
pumpkins squash, etc. Your Extension service can be a big help. If I can help,
let me know.]

Subject: [ParishNurse] Nutrition presentation.....
Hi,
I have to organize a presentation for the church and I need advice.
I would like to put together something on nutrition, healthy
eating, etc. but am having trouble getting ideas. I have a
nutritionist lined up to give a one hour long talk, but I would
really like for the audience to get involved instead of just sitting
there listening.
What kind of visual aids or handouts should I use?
Should I fix "sample" foods for them to try?
If anyone has organized something like this please give me ideas or
advice. I really want this to go over well since this is my first
organized event as the Parish nurse at the church.
Thanks, Kim
