My thesis work did not find that the McGill Model of Nursing helped in
the transition - actually I wasn't looking for that or testing the
model. What I did find is that it helped to make sense when one was
trying to go from a clinical nurse practice where we concentrate on
"curing" someone to a parish nurse practice where the emphasis is on
healing - which may or may not include a cure. For instance, your
cancer can continue to progress, but you have found a greater inner
peace through your faith and actually feel like you are a healthier
person from a holistic view, even though your physical health is
deteriorating.
I really liked the book "Nursing within a Faith Community", by Clark and
Olson, who are Canadians. It is somewhat academic in nature, as
compared to other books about parish nursing, but I found it refreshing
and one of the few books that takes a serious look at understanding
parish nursing from a practice standpoint. I would highly recommend it.
I would be happy to send you my thesis which looked at how nurses who
have a successful practice transitioned to parish nursing, as an email
attachment. I have to warn you though, reading any thesis can put you
to sleep!!
I know you will love parish nursing. I have worked in many areas of
nursing including several years in healthcare administration, and
without a doubt, parish nursing is the most rewarding position
(personally and professionally) that I have ever had. Best wishes and
many blessings to you!

I am going to take a Parish Nursing certificate program thru St. Louis
U. :)
. What is the correct name of the model that helped the transitional
process?
Is there any you can recommend? God Bless
