The Parish Nurse Program of National City Christian Church is pleased to present
Dr. David Satcher, former Surgeon General of the United States. Dr. Satcher will
deliver a "state of the nation's health" address at National City Church in
downtown Washington on Saturday, March 23.
Satcher recently ended a four-year term as the top U.S. health official. In
September, after spending several months working on a book, he will join the
Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. At Morehouse, he will direct a
new center to promote access to primary health care.
As a leading spokesman on public health, the Surgeon General has confronted
public mores and addressed delicate health topics. He has also been a leading
advocate of reducing social disparities in medicine. "All my life and career,
I've paid attention to black people's health," he said in a press interview on
his last day as Surgeon General. "I couldn't sleep at night if I didn't."
Dr. Satcher is a member of National City Christian Church, where he will make
his presentation, which begins at 2:00pm. A reception and exhibit of health
resources and information will follow his talk. The church is located at 14th
and Thomas Circle, N.W., in Washington, D.C.
