Where in N Collins is Gary's Beehaven? Also does he only sell in large amts? A 3lb jar will last me months. <grin>
Speaking of bees has anyone else been following the honey bee situation? There seem to be two very serious problems affecting hives. One in which the bee's just kind of vanish, frigheteningly enough the hives which have been deserted for unknown causes have not had any signs of preditory insects moving in. They are full of honey and empty of bees or any other insect. Recently keepers in Canada have found this, as well as an unusual amt of hives in which all the bees are dead or dying also from unknown cause... once again hive full of honey. There's some research being done on the subject.
One of the things they are looking at is a nicotine based hebacide which does not affect adult bees but has been shown to have an impact on bees learning ability in larval stages. Another interesting study showed that bees among genetically modified crops, are more sluggish, and polinate less effectively than those among traditional crops.
While GMC look like they could be a culprit, the hive breakdown is also found in Great Britian which does not use GMC.
I don't have my resources handy... but it is an interesting thing to read...
