For how slim the pickings are for you... yeah Silver's as good a place as any to go. The worst that's going to happen is you find it isn't going to work for you and translate to your needs well.
You might want to take up Rune study as well. Futhark: A Handbook of Rune Magic is a book I'd suggest for that. Among other things Thorsson explains how the hex signs and other symbols evolved within rune magic, and you really can see the different runes within the symbols once you understand them.
